“Where is your Dad? He shoulda been here by now!” Callie exclaimed Friday afternoon.
“There he is,” Rachel said, pointing, “Come on.”
Once they reached Mr. Sherman’s old green truck, Mr. Sherman told them that they would go to Farlington Auction, and then go to Jinken Auctions. Jinken City was a nearby town about 15 minutes away.

“Here we are.” Mr. Sherman said as they got out of the truck.
“Wow! Look at all the animals!” Callie exclaimed.
“Come on! Let’s go see the horses!” Rachel exclaimed.
When they reached the corral of horses, Callie and Rachel walked slowly around the pen, examining the horses carefully.
“What about that sorrel? He looks good and healthy.” Rachel said.
“He looks a bit too wild.” Callie replied as they circled the corral again. Just then, the announcer announced that the horse auction would begin in five minutes.
“We better go and get some seats, girls. This way,” Mr. Sherman said, leading the way to a large arena set up with bleachers.
When the auction began, the girls watched each horse carefully, and when a beautiful black horse with a white mane and tail trotted into the arena, the girls quickly agreed the mare was what they were looking for.
“The bid on this beautiful mare will start at $200. Does anyone have a bid to place?”
“250” a man called out from the crowd.
“250, I have 250. Would anyone bid 300?” The announcer said over the loud speaker.
“325” Callie called out.
“350” the man called out.
“Come on Callie! Bid! Rachel hissed in her ear.
“I’m waiting till he thinks she’s his, cause then he might not bid again.”
“Going……… Going……” the announcer said.

A Real Treasure - Part 1
A Real Treasure

After school, on a bright and sunny day, Callie Meyers and Rachel Sherman went to Callie’s tree house to do their home work.
“Why did you want me to put my money in the bank?” Callie asked Rachel as they climbed up the steps.
“Because if you put it in there, the money eventually adds up, till you have enough to buy what you want.”
“But that will take years, and by the time I have enough to buy a really nice horse, I could have already made that much.”
“You said you had $900, right? I have $750. Why don’t we just add our money together and buy one to share. You have plenty of property and I live only a few blocks away.”
“Well…..” Callie thought a little while, and then said, “I guess. But are you sure, Rachel?”
“Yes. I can get my dad to take us to an auction on Friday after school. My birthday’s Thursday and I will ask for money and money only. My grandparents usually give me $20 for my birthday anyway.”
“It’s a deal. I’ll get my money out of the bank Thursday and we can meet your dad in the back parking lot of the school at 3:35 Friday.”

Thursday morning, the girls met early at the front of the school.
“Hey, Rachel! Happy Birthday! How much money did you get for your birthday?” Callie asked as soon as she saw her friend.
“Callie! You won’t believe it! Once my grandparents heard I was going to buy a horse with it, they gave me extra! I got $100!!!!”
“Cool! Maybe we can get two horses!”
“Callie, you forgot that we have to pay for feed. At least the old barn didn’t need repairing.” Rachel said, thinking of the old red barn (which now looked pink from the sun) that was on Callie’s property.
“Yeah. You’re right. Let’s go.”

ATI Confrence
Last week, my family and i travelled to Nashville, Tennessee, for an ATI (Advanced Training Institute) Confrence. I went to a progam for girls called Pre-excel. It was a lot of fun and i met many new friends. I will try to post some pics sometime - but i might not get around to it for a while. I will also try to post about our stay at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel.
