I'm Back!
HI, everyone! I'm back from Missouri and New Mexico! Well, I will try to give you a summary of what we did. The first two days we where at Branson (Tuesday and Wednesday), we went to an amusement park called Silver Dollar City. I also found out that I hate fast roller coasters that have several up and downs and go almost sideways. On Thursday, we went to the Roy Rogers & Dale Evans Museum and also went to a Roy Rogers Jr. show. Friday, the boys - minus Daniel - went to the Bass Pro Shop and the girls watched Anne of Green Gables. On Saturday, we went to the Laura Ingalls Wilder house in Mansfield Missouri. Then, from there, went travelled to Albuquerque, New Mexico. We went to Bandurra National Park and to the Sandia Mountain Tram.

A Real Treasure - Part 7
“You want to ride the same way we went yesterday, or go somewhere else?” Rachel asked as they trotted through the pastures.
“The same way. I think she’d be easier to handle if we took her the same way.” Callie said, looking down at Rachel.
When they came to the place that Mariah had started prancing in front the day before, Mariah stopped and started neighing. When the lady who lived in the house came out to see what was going on, Mariah tried to go to her. “Mariah. Settle down. Easy, girl.” Callie tried to calm her.
When the lady reached them, she said, “I am Cindy Greenman. As you see, I live here, and when I heard the commotion out here, I came out to see what it was about. I used to own a show horse, Trottin’ Trixy, and she was stolen five months ago. We received news, by an unknown source, that she was sold for auction at Farlington Auction a month ago. Since then, I have been searching for her all over the place, and apparently, you,” she nodded at Callie, “Are riding her.”
“What do you mean? Yes, we did buy Mariah at the auction last month, but how could she be your stolen show horse?” Callie asked, confused.
“Well, you see, she has won lots of ribbons and prizes, so, whoever stole Trixy must have wanted to sell her somewhere where she likely wouldn’t be recognized.” Mrs. Greenman paused for a moment, then asked, “Does she have a freeze-brand on her neck?”
“Yes, she does,” Rachel said carefully, “would you like to discuss this more and examine her at our barn, where she could rest some?”
Mrs. Greenman sighed, than said, “Sure. Where is it?”
Callie gave her directions, then she and Rachel started back.

Once they were all at the barn, Callie and Rachel told Mrs. Greenman the story of how they had come to own Mariah and Trickster. When they were done, Mrs. Greenman said, “I’m sorry girls, but this is my horse, Trottin’ Trixy. The freeze-brands match exactly. I can also see why she adopted your colt, Trickster, so quickly and easily. She doesn’t show much any more, so I had her trained to accept almost any foal that would be put by her side. This way, I could rescue foals with potential from the slaughterhouse and Trixy could help train them some manners.”
“Oh. I guess you would like her back then.” Rachel said.
“Yeah, and I guess she’s really your horse, not ours.” Callie added.
“Yes, I would like her back, but, since you understand and are generous enough to give her back to me without any one giving you your money back, I’ll let you keep her till your colt’s old enough to not need her.” Mrs. Greenman said, then added, “and please call me Cindy.”
“Okay, Cindy. Thanks.” Callie said, “Trickster probably will only need her for a week or two more, anyways.”
“Okay. I’ll call you next week then, okay?” Cindy asked.
“Okay.”

Once Callie and Rachel had done the barn chores and gone to the house and told Callie’s parents the whole long story, they said, “You know girls, things don’t always turn out the way you would like them to. In this case, you learned that your real treasure is not your horse, but Jesus, your family, and your friend also, in this case, who help you through your hard times and struggles and are always there for you.” Mrs. Meyers told them, “You understand, don’t you?”
“Yes. I just wish we could keep her,” Callie said as Rachel nodded. At that moment the phone rang, and Mr. Meyers went to get it. When he came back, he made an announcement.
“Callie, Rachel, your wish has just been granted. That was Cindy Greenman, and she said that you could keep Mariah and not have to give her back, as long as she was allowed to visit her. You see, she just got another show horse, and with him being there, she doesn’t have room for Trixy, as she calls her, so, she says that Mariah is now officially yours for ever and ever. Just don’t forget what you learned through all of this.”

A Real Treasure - Part 6
**************************************************************************************
When they finally reached the tack shop, Mrs. Meyers gave them instructions on how to pick out a saddle. “You need to get a saddle that will be comfortable for you and Mariah. The saddles are arranged by size, smallest to largest. You will probably need a medium size. Make sure it will fit both of you.”
With that, they all went in search of a good saddle. When they fond the right size, the girls looked at all the different designs and colors. “What about this one?” Callie asked.
“A bit too dark of a brown. Hey, what about a blue, pink, or purple one?” Rachel said, noticing some saddles that had different colors of fabric on them.
“I like dark blue. What about this silver and blue saddle,” Callie asked, holding up a saddle that was dark blue with silver trim and decoration.”
“I think it’s beautiful! Let’s see if they’ll get it for us.”
When Callie and Rachel finally found Callie’s parents looking at the horse treats, Callie’s arms were hurting from carrying the saddle.
“So you finally found one?” Mr. Meyers teased, “I thought we would be here all day.”
“How much?” Mrs. Meyers asked.
“$325,” Rachel read on the price tag, “And it’s marked down to $275.”
Mr. and Mrs. Meyers looked at each other for a second, then Mr. Meyers launched into a what-would-be long lecture. “Well, seeing that you showed enough responsibility in saving your money, choosing and buying your own horses, spending your money wisely on the horses, buying the fe-“Callie cut him off before he could say anything else.
“Thanks Dad. You don’t have to burden yourself with an extra long lecture.”
“I get the point. But before we buy the saddle for you, you owe us 100 dollars, you need a girth. And don’t you think Mariah and Trickster deserve a reward once in a while?” Mrs. Meyers said to them.
Callie and Rachel looked confused, so Mr. Meyers said, “She means that you can pick out a few horse treats. Just keep it under five dollars.”
“Thanks.” Callie and Rachel said together.
Later, as they were finishing buying the tack and “carrot cake” treats, Rachel remembered the money she had stashed in her pocket Friday for a new horse brush. “Mrs. Meyers, me and Callie need to get a brush, so we’ll be at the car in a few minutes.” Rachel said.
“Okay. Just don’t take too long.”
“Yes ma’am.” Callie said.
“Wow. There sure are a lot of brushes to pick from. What about pink?” Callie said as they looked at all the brushes.
“What would Trickster think if we brushed him with a girly brush?” Rachel teased, grabbing one before Callie could.
“He’d get over it.”
**************************************************************************************
When they got to Callie’s house, the girls gave $100 to Mr. and Mrs. Meyers, then went to the barn to work with Mariah.
“We can put the saddle here, and then brush them. It’s your turn to ride Mariah.” Callie said.
“Yeah…… but its your birthday, so you should ride her.”
“You sure?”
“Yeah, as long as I still get to brush her.”
“Okay. Could I use the pink brush on Trickster?”
“Oh yeah. You need to get him back for playing that trick on you yesterday when he opened the stall and butted you with his head.” When Rachel said that, the girls started laughing about it. When Callie had put him in his stall, Friday, and walked towards the hay pile, Trickster figured out how to open his stall door and followed Callie till she was in front of the hay pile, then butted her with his head, making her fall into the hay. Callie had sat up with her red brown hair full of pieces of hay. She had been lucky enough to get it all out, though.
“Trickster, my cuddly friend,” she said to him, “It’s payback time,” and with that, she began brushing him with the hot pink brush.

A Real Treasure - Part 5
“Here, and tie this around her girth area to keep it in place.” Callie said as Rachel finished grooming Mariah.
“What is it and what’s it for?” Rachel asked, perplexed.
“It’s an old saddle blanket. It’ll help her get used to a saddle.” Callie explained, teasing Rachel with a look that said ‘Poor Rachel, she doesn’t know what a saddle pad is. Poor, poor her.’
“Oh, quit it. I know what a saddle pad is, but that,” Rachel said, pointing at the old, beaten up saddle pad, “does not look anything like one. It looks more like a… a… a… a I-don’t-know-what.”
“Your right. Still, you need to use it.”
“Okay.”
**************************************************************************************
“Your doing good.” Callie said to Rachel, who was aboard Mariah, as she peddled her bike up a hill.
Rachel suddenly stopped and said, “You know, she seems too, I don’t know, too much like a show horse, I guess, to have been sold at an auction.”
“Yeah. You’re right. I never realized that before. You think she could be that horse from around here that was stolen?”
“Maybe, but why would someone steal a show horse, then sell it, only a few months later, at an auction only minutes away from the place that they stole it from.” Rachel said, thinking hard.
“I don’t know. Come on, let’s get her back home.”
**************************************************************************************
“You ready yet?” Callie asked three weeks later.
“Yeah. I was locking Trickster in the stall. Here,” Rachel said, giving Callie a boost up. “You sure she’s ready to go out on the street.”
“Mom said it would be okay. Besides, the street is hardly ever used. Nobody will mind if we clean up after her.”
“Okay. Let’s go.”
Callie guided Mariah through the pasture and past the house to the street with Rachel walking besides her. Then, Rachel clipped a lead rope onto Mariah’s bridal for extra control in case she spooked. “Let’s go to the left. You can take her to the right on your turn, okay?” Callie asked.
“Sure. I was hoping you’d say that.” Rachel said with a grin.
As the two girls and horse continued down the street, they noticed several people stopping to look at them. “Wow. I didn’t know that we were so popular.” Callie whispered to Rachel as they walked by a group of kids that had stopped their game to stare at Mariah. In return, Mariah nickered, arched her neck, and pranced like a show horse.
“We’d better go back before she gets even more excited.” Rachel said, looking up at Callie.
“Yeah. Let’s go.”
**************************************************************************************
On Saturday, the next day, Callie and Rachel, who had spent the night with her, woke up to the smell of blueberry pancakes. “I can’t wait! Mom said she and Dad would take us to the tack shop in town right after breakfast so we can pick out a saddle.” Callie said excitedly.
The girls hurriedly ate their breakfast, and then sat waiting for Mr. and Mrs. Meyers, who were eating super slow, to finish eating. “Dad, Mom, hurry up! I want to go to the tack shop and what you’re doing is not funny.” Callie said.
“I agree with her,” Rachel said.
“Okay, we’ll hurry,” Mr. Meyers said, then added, “While we finish up, you can go get your shoes on and feed your horses.”
“We already fed them.” Callie said, getting up from the table to get her shoes.
“What is it and what’s it for?” Rachel asked, perplexed.

A Real Treasure - Part 4
Saturday morning, at 8:30, Callie and Rachel met at the old barn to brush the horses and to argue about who would get to ride Mariah first.
“Can I brush Trickster? You can brush Mariah.” Rachel pleaded as they sorted through the brushes they had found and the ones they had bought.
“Well…. I guess. I sort of wanted to get to know Mariah anyway since I’ll be the first one to ride her.” Callie said with a teasing grin.
“Will not.”
“Will too.”
“Will not”
“Well, we’ll just wait and see who gets to know her the best.” Callie said, then added, “Besides, we don’t even know if she’s trained to be saddled.”
“We don’t have a saddle, remember Callie.”
“Not yet, but we will. My birthday is next month, right? My parents said that if we could train her to ride by then, they’d get us a saddle for my birthday if we paid part.”
“Then… I guess if you’re sacrificing your birthday money for a saddle…. I could let you do the dangerous part of being the first one to ride her.”
“Yeah!”
**************************************************************************************
“You sure you’re ready for this?” Rachel asked for the second time, then added, “cause if your not, I could ride her.”
“Quit trying to change my mind, Rachel. I’m sure.” Callie said, and then, as Mariah nuzzled her arm, she added, “She’s a sweetheart. Now give me a boost up.”
“Okay.”
Once Callie was settled on her back, Mariah gave a playful buck then settled to walking through the pasture with Trickster following and Rachel walking alongside. “I think someone must have taught her to be ridden. I’m going to try her at a trot. Okay?” Callie asked Rachel.
“Go for it.” Rachel told her. As soon as Rachel said that, Callie commanded Mariah to trot. Mariah gave a buck, then trotted back to the barn.
“Why do you think she bucks whenever I squeeze her up?” Callie asked Rachel after she had dismounted.
“I don’t know….. Do you think someone could have kick her with spurs or something before we bought her?”
“Maybe. She does have a few scars where a person would have kicked her.” Callie said, and then abruptly changed the subject. “What time is it?”
“11:15” Rachel said, glancing at her watch.
“We better go if we want lunch. Mom said she’d make it for us if we got back before 11:30.”
**************************************************************************************
“There you are!” Mrs. Meyers said as the girls came in the door at exactly 11:29. “You almost missed your lunch. Did you have fun?”
“We sure did! I rode Mariah and she is wonderful -”
“Except she bucks when you ask her to speed up or g-“ Rachel started to interrupt, but Callie started talking again.
“We think it’s because her previous owner used spurs on her. Trickster-“ Callie was interrupted once again by Rachel.
“He’s so cute and is so sweet. He followed us around the whole time-“ It was at this point that the girls noticed that Mrs. Meyers was trying not to laugh at them.
“What?” Callie asked.
“You two! Ya’ll talk so fast and interrupt each other so much that it is hard not to laugh. Now go wash up before I give your lunches to the dog.” Mrs. Meyers said, starting to laugh.

The next week, Rachel and Callie met in the barn again to train and brush the horses.

A Real Treasure - Part 3
“400!” Callie shouted.
“Sold!”
“Callie! You did it!” Rachel shouted.
“Pipe down. I have an idea. I saw them leading a bay foal without a mom into the corral when we were leaving. I just know our mare will be a perfect foster mom for him.” Callie told Rachel.
“Is that him? He’s soooooo cute!” Rachel squealed as they led a tiny brown colt into the arena.
“Who will start the bidding of this fine colt at $100?”
“150” Callie said.
“200” a man wearing a straw hat called out.
“250” Callie said.
“Shoot! I can’t afford that much for just a little colt.” The man in the straw hat said.
When no other bids came, the announcer declared the colt sold to Callie and Rachel.
**************************************************************************************
When the girls went to get their horses, they discovered the owner of Farlington Auction, Mr. Farling, waiting for them.
“Wonder what Luke wants.” Mr. Sherman said, referring to Mr. Farling by his first name.
“Hello, Callie, Rachel, Jed.” Mr. Farling said as soon as they were close enough to hear.
“Hi. What do you think of our new investments?” Rachel asked him.
“They are nice horses. If you’re planning on the mare to be a foster mother for the little one, they have already bonded. “
“Sure are.” Callie said.
“Nice seeing you, Luke. We’d best be going.”

In the truck, after they had loaded the horses into a trailer Mr. Farling had let them borrow, the girls discussed what they should name them. “I think the mare should be Princess and the foal Prince.” Rachel said.
“No…. too, well, it just doesn’t fit their personalities. The mare acts spirited, but not too spirited for us. She is also a real sweetie. The colt is shy but when you get to know him, he’ll probably play tricks on you.”
“What about Trickster for the colt? Or Sweetheart for the mare?” Rachel asked her.
“I like Trickster for the colt, but the mare has gotta have a name that’s pretty, sweet, and spirited.” Callie said, determined to find the right name for the black mare.
“How does Mariah sound?”
“Perfect! Mariah and Trickster. I like it.” Callie said.

“Sold!”

A Real Treasure - Part 2
“Where is your Dad? He shoulda been here by now!” Callie exclaimed Friday afternoon.
“There he is,” Rachel said, pointing, “Come on.”
Once they reached Mr. Sherman’s old green truck, Mr. Sherman told them that they would go to Farlington Auction, and then go to Jinken Auctions. Jinken City was a nearby town about 15 minutes away.
**************************************************************************************
“Here we are.” Mr. Sherman said as they got out of the truck.
“Wow! Look at all the animals!” Callie exclaimed.
“Come on! Let’s go see the horses!” Rachel exclaimed.
When they reached the corral of horses, Callie and Rachel walked slowly around the pen, examining the horses carefully.
“What about that sorrel? He looks good and healthy.” Rachel said.
“He looks a bit too wild.” Callie replied as they circled the corral again. Just then, the announcer announced that the horse auction would begin in five minutes.
“We better go and get some seats, girls. This way,” Mr. Sherman said, leading the way to a large arena set up with bleachers.
When the auction began, the girls watched each horse carefully, and when a beautiful black horse with a white mane and tail trotted into the arena, the girls quickly agreed the mare was what they were looking for.
“The bid on this beautiful mare will start at $200. Does anyone have a bid to place?”
“250” a man called out from the crowd.
“250, I have 250. Would anyone bid 300?” The announcer said over the loud speaker.
“325” Callie called out.
“350” the man called out.
“Come on Callie! Bid! Rachel hissed in her ear.
“I’m waiting till he thinks she’s his, cause then he might not bid again.”
“Going……… Going……” the announcer said.

A Real Treasure - Part 1
A Real Treasure
By Hannah Wright
After school, on a bright and sunny day, Callie Meyers and Rachel Sherman went to Callie’s tree house to do their home work.
“Why did you want me to put my money in the bank?” Callie asked Rachel as they climbed up the steps.
“Because if you put it in there, the money eventually adds up, till you have enough to buy what you want.”
“But that will take years, and by the time I have enough to buy a really nice horse, I could have already made that much.”
“You said you had $900, right? I have $750. Why don’t we just add our money together and buy one to share. You have plenty of property and I live only a few blocks away.”
“Well…..” Callie thought a little while, and then said, “I guess. But are you sure, Rachel?”
“Yes. I can get my dad to take us to an auction on Friday after school. My birthday’s Thursday and I will ask for money and money only. My grandparents usually give me $20 for my birthday anyway.”
“It’s a deal. I’ll get my money out of the bank Thursday and we can meet your dad in the back parking lot of the school at 3:35 Friday.”
**************************************************************************************
Thursday morning, the girls met early at the front of the school.
“Hey, Rachel! Happy Birthday! How much money did you get for your birthday?” Callie asked as soon as she saw her friend.
“Callie! You won’t believe it! Once my grandparents heard I was going to buy a horse with it, they gave me extra! I got $100!!!!”
“Cool! Maybe we can get two horses!”
“Callie, you forgot that we have to pay for feed. At least the old barn didn’t need repairing.” Rachel said, thinking of the old red barn (which now looked pink from the sun) that was on Callie’s property.
“Yeah. You’re right. Let’s go.”

Last week, my family and i travelled to Nashville, Tennessee, for an ATI (Advanced Training Institute) Confrence. I went to a progam for girls called Pre-excel. It was a lot of fun and i met many new friends. I will try to post some pics sometime - but i might not get around to it for a while. I will also try to post about our stay at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel.

Well, where i live, it does not ever snow. if it does, it is not enough to do anything with, so, a few minutes ago, when i found out that the weather guy says there is supposed to be 2 inches of snow on the ground in the morning, i sorta laghed. I hope it does snow though, and more than 2 inches. I guess i will have to wait to tomarrow to see, though.

I'm not that good at blogging - posting stuff to be exact - so I will just write about what I am doing right now. Right now, our puppy, Buster, is sitting in my lap, trying to jump down so he can run around in circles on the carpet - which is not alowed. He is a mut, part terrior, possibly part minuater pincher. He is about seven months old right now.
